Why We Volunteer
I don’t volunteer for the Fraternal Order of Eagles because I have nothing else to do. I volunteer because I believe in People Helping People — because together we raise funds, we offer hope, we build strong communities, and we make life better for others. I volunteer because that’s what Eagles do. People. Purpose. Community.
Eagles Give 100%
The Fraternal Order of Eagles believes every penny donated to our Charity Foundation should benefit the organizations who need it most — that’s why 100% of all funds raised are returned in the form of grants. While many charities use donations to help offset administrative costs, the F.O.E. uses membership dues to cover those costs instead, so every dollar our Aerie raises goes directly to people in need.
About the Foundation
The F.O.E. Charity Foundation hosts a variety of funds — each dedicated to a specific cause — which collect donations from nearly 3,000 Aeries and Auxiliaries nationwide, including our own, for the purpose of awarding grants to local and international organizations dedicated to research and patient care. Grant recipients must prove that no portion of the grant is used to fund administrative costs, keeping our promise of 100% of donations going where they’re needed.
Each year F.O.E. members give nearly $10 million to community and nationwide organizations, donating countless hours to a wide array of fundraisers. Since 1898, the F.O.E. has built a philanthropic legacy — becoming the first organization to donate $1 million to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, helping fund the Truman Cardiovascular Lab and Heart Fund Research Lab at Sutton Medical Research Foundation, and establishing our crown jewel, the $25 million Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center at the University of Iowa. Eagles are giving people, and our Charity Foundation is a perfect representation of why we’re known throughout the world as “People Helping People.”

Fund allows for donations to organizations not otherwise permitted by the Charity Foundation — giving our local chapter flexibility to support causes close to home.

Chapter & State Highlights
As part of the Virginia & North Carolina Eagles, our Aerie’s giving adds up to something bigger. Here’s a look at recent state-wide results, this year’s special charity, and how our Ladies Auxiliary stacks up in statewide fund rankings.
$1.2 Million Raised Last Quarter
Virginia & North Carolina Eagles donated an incredible $1,210,279.47 in the last quarter alone — more than $1.2 million making a difference through our communities, charities, and the work of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. That’s People Helping People in action, and our Aerie is proud to be part of it.
This Year’s Special Charity: Make‑A‑Wish Virginia
Our incoming Grand Worthy President and Grand Madam President have chosen Make‑A‑Wish Virginia as their special charity for this fraternal year. Make‑A‑Wish creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses, bringing hope, strength, and joy when they need it most — and every dollar raised at events held in Virginia stays local, granting wishes for children right here in our state.
